Audit firms' online tests
Audit firm aptitude tests: the complete preparation
Numerical reasoning, visual logic, attention to detail, verbal skills, English, accounting, Excel, situational judgment: practise on real-format tests, timed and full screen, before the firm's invitation lands.
The 8 sections of audit firms' online tests
Numerical reasoning
Tables and charts to read fast, percentages, ratios, changes, two- or three-step calculations against the clock. The section that eliminates the most candidates.
Logical and abstract reasoning
Figure series and matrices: rotations, reflections, movements, overlays. Usually visual, very fast, no calculator.
Attention to detail
Comparing lists, spotting a copy error in an IBAN, an amount or an invoice number: exactly an auditor's reflex when ticking and bashing.
Verbal skills
True / false / cannot say on short texts, plus grammar and spelling in the language of the test.
English
Grammar, vocabulary and reading aligned with the CEFR. B2 is often stated as the minimum in audit.
Accounting
Accounting principles, entries, year-end adjustments, reading financial statements, IFRS fundamentals depending on the role.
Excel and office software
Absolute references, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, pivot tables, shortcuts: the auditor's everyday tool.
Situational judgment and personality
Engagement scenarios: the most and least effective response, prioritising an inbox in busy season. Plus personality questionnaires where consistency matters.
Take a mini-test in real conditions
5 questions, 5 minutes, full screen like on a recruitment platform: a chart, a figure series, a matrix, a sentence to check, a comparison. Detailed review at the end.
Real conditions
Mini-test: 5 sections in 5 minutes
5 questions · 5 min · on-screen calculator
Before you start
- The test opens full screen, like on a recruitment platform. The timer starts as soon as you click "Start" and never pauses.
- One question at a time, no going back.
- No feedback until the end: you see your score once the test is over.
- At 0, the test is submitted automatically. An unanswered question counts as wrong.
- Find a quiet spot, with paper and a pen. No breaks, no outside help.
And a training game
Mental maths saves 20 to 30 seconds per question in the numerical test. Aim for 15 correct calculations in 60 seconds.
Training game
Lightning maths
Solve as many calculations as you can before time runs out. Type the answer and press Enter. Difficulty rises as you string answers together.

How online tests work at audit firms
The invitation
After CV screening, you receive a link to the platform (Maki, SHL, Aon or an in-house test depending on the firm and the year), often with a few days to complete it. The modules and timings are stated in the invitation: read it carefully.
The test
Short sections, often 5 to 15 minutes each, timed, one question per screen, sometimes with no going back. A calculator is only allowed on some modules.
What comes next
Tests mainly filter large volumes: a low score can end the process, a decent score opens the HR, technical and then manager or partner interviews. Each firm sets its own threshold.
What the online tests preparation includes
- 10 method lessons, one per section, with shortcuts, traps and worked examples
- Over 1,200 corrected questions, in English and French
- Logic with real figures: series, matrices, rotations, overlays
- Numerical reasoning on tables and charts, with an on-screen calculator
- 6 timed full-screen mock tests, including a complete firm assessment simulation (7 sections back to back)
- Endlessly replayable sets (questions drawn at random) and your score history
- 5 endlessly generated training games: lightning maths, percentages, comparison, series, memory
The module is included in the training subscription, alongside the audit courses, real-world scenarios, interview preparation and CV review.

Which online tests do audit firms use?
Most often numerical reasoning, logic (often visual), attention to detail, a language test (English), and depending on the role an accounting, Excel, situational judgment or personality test. The exact content depends on the firm, the role and the year: always check your invitation. What is a Maki test?
Maki is a French recruitment testing platform. According to prep sites, several audit firms use it. Tests are short, timed, multiple choice and visual, and each employer chooses the modules and sets its own threshold. Can you really practise for aptitude tests?
Yes. These tests measure aptitude, but familiarity with the formats, calculation shortcuts and time management earn a lot of points. Most candidates lose points through lack of time, not lack of ability. How long does it take to prepare?
One to three weeks of regular practice is usually enough: the method for each section, then timed sets, then mock tests in real conditions. The calculation and comparison games take a few minutes a day.Is a calculator allowed in the numerical test?
It depends on the test: some modules allow it, others don't. Practise both ways and work on mental maths, which stays faster for simple percentages.Does a poor test score always mean rejection?
Not always. Tests mainly act as a filter: a very low score can stop the process, an average score does not automatically eliminate you. Each firm sets its own criteria.
